Society "Azerbaijan women in oil industry"

After gaining its independence the Azerbaijan Republic developed a hard work on creating a democratic government. All that brought to different reorganization In the society, to changing people's consiousness, to finding new ways of solving socioeconomlc problems which are Intestified by Nagorny Karabakch Region conflict and in the result various public organizations began to build.

In a country where oil producing and oil refining exists for more than 100 years women's participation in this basic branch is natural.

If men were the basement of Oil Industry during the period of its establishment then in 40-les women's flow Into the Industry Increased and for today among working oil-staff there are more than 19000 women represented in different structures and levels. For the past few years because of different reasons tendency to Me reduction of number of women is observed. In the presence of men's and women's rights there are almost no women on the loading posts. That is why for defining their own place and role in the civil society necessity emerged in creating a public organization amongst women-oil workers. December 23, 1994 Is considered the organization's birthday when first constituent women's Congress took place, 165 delegates declared the establishment of the "Azerbaijan Oil Women" society (Women in Oil Industry of the Azerbaijan Republic). The society was registered by the Ministry of Justice college on February 9, 1995.

The society "Azerbaijan Oil Women" is independent, non-governmental, women, international organization. Its activity is built according the constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic, follows the acting legislations and international normative acts and organization's rules.

The "Azerbaijan Oil Women"society unites women on voluntary basement who work In oil industry, their family members and everyone who is Interested.

  • protecting women's rights as well as fighting against all forms of discrimination;
  • taking an effective part in gender equality projects.
  • gaining equal rights and possibilities in all spheres of socio-economic life;
  • creating conditions to promote women to the leading posts;

  • taking part in international women conferences, seminars and forums;
  • conducting charitable actions for socio-vulnerable sections of the population.

  • conducting systematic opinion polls, round tables, meetings for revealing and solving women's problems;
  • promotion of professional and culture-educational level of knowledge;
  • establishment and support of business contracts with all public women organizations as inside the country as well as outside of it;
  • Systematic conduction of beneficent activity and giving help to aged people, solitaries, orphans, families oflosts, refugees and forced migrants.


    "Azerbaijan Oil Woman" conducts its activity on a voluntary basement, with the help of volunteers. Ones in 5 years a Congress is held. The second Congress was held on February 26, 2000 under the motto "Peking+5". During the Congress by means of open voting the chief of society is selected, presidium of 15 people, as well as expanded government of 63 women, among them 52 leaders of women groups on the territory.


    Participants of the world- wide women conference (Peking), Habidat-2 (Turkey), the Hague (The Netherlands), Karachi (Pakistan), Teheran (Iran), Moscow, Rostov (Russian Federation), Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Switzerland, USA and others.

    AGIC promotes creating the history of civil society and those initiations by studying womanవblic activity in the end of XIX - the beginning of XX centuries. The collection of the visual evidences and oral reminiscences allows not only to recalled the events, become utterly absorbed in the atmosphere that reigned at that time but also to comprehend, understand how and what efforts were demanded for establishing of Caucasus women಩ghts. The information collected here will serve also as a supporting material for teachers, historians and researchers working in the sphere of woman࡮d gender problems. They will get an opportunity of using these unique documents as historical references, visual and oral evidences.


    The European WomenԨesaurus is the tool for definition and search of the "female" information in databanks, the Internet and the collection of women଩braries, the documentary centers and archives. The European WomenԨesaurus contains 2087 European terms.

    In the Azerbaijan version of the Thesaurus are brought 589 terms reflecting sociopolitical realities of the Azerbaijan society, national and Islamic culture.

    In Azerbaijan by initiative of the President Ilham Aliev in accordance with Presidential Decree dated by 6 of February 2006 State Committee on Family, Women and Children issues has been established. Chairwoman of the Committee is Mrs. Khidjran Guseynova. She is the professor of the Baku State University and the first woman- the doctor of political sciences in Azerbaijan
